Suffolk PD welcomes 3 special recruits for the day
The Suffolk County Police Department increased its force Wednesday by welcoming a few special recruits for the day.
Three boys who met at a cancer support group thought they were getting a tour of police headquarters in Yaphank, but instead were surprised by a swearing-in ceremony.
Zachary Cote, Jesse Pallas and Sean Hughes got to work alongside detectives, emergency service officers and meet the department’s police dogs.
They also checked out patrol cars and a police helicopter.
The boys received proclamations and capped off the day with a “modified walkout” – a tradition reserved for high-ranking members when they retire.
Their parents told News 12 they were equally as excited to get their children away from doctor’s appointments so they could have fun for the day.
"It just brings a huge smile to my face because they are happy," said Melanie Hughes.
