Townhouse proposal for Manorville golf course irks some neighbors
A plan to build townhouses on a golf course in Manorville has some residents concerned about how it could change their quality of life.
Fred Schoenfeld, of Manorville, says the tranquility of the neighborhood would be shattered if a proposed 125-townhouse development is built nearby on the Pine Hills Golf and Country Club.
“From what we're seeing in proposals, they want to widen the service road here, which increases noise and traffic…Some of the intersections are really dangerous out here,” he says.
The project, called Sun River Town Homes, would be built on the southern end of the golf course, which is owned by Heatherwood Luxury Rentals.
The developer is asking the Brookhaven Town Board to approve a zoning change that would allow for multifamily dwellings.
Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico says the proposed development would benefit both the town and local residents because it would preserve wooded areas.
He says the property owner would donate more than 50 acres of the land to the town for preservation as open space, under the conditions of the proposal.
“They will be forever natural and it won't cost the taxpayers a dime,” says Panico.
The developer did not respond to News 12’s calls for comment.
