Some native Long Islanders who moved to the Carolinas have now found themselves in the path of Hurricane Florence.

Marc Weiner, his wife Stacey and their 4-year-old son Gavin moved from Selden to Raleigh, North Carolina just two weeks ago.

“It's funny, some of my friends down here were like, ‘Welcome to the South,’” Marc told News 12.

Marc says as a Long Islander, he knows the drill: Hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.

"I think we are probably going to stay home,” he says. “I brought my generator from back home. From what I understand, that is big down here. I think I am going to be all right.”

Some other Long Islanders decided not to stay. Tiffany and Tiara Fielding, of Syosset, both attend High Point University in North Carolina. They flew home ahead of the storm.

“It’s a scary thing to be away for your first time at college and a huge hurricane is headed towards you,” said Tiara.

Tiffany Fielding, a junior, says some people warned that it could be as bad as Superstorm Sandy, so she wanted to leave the area as quickly as she could.

“I just wanted to get out of there before it was a madhouse or I got stuck in the hurricane,” she said.

Hurricane Florence’s outer bands have already reached the Carolinas. It is expected to bring massive amounts of rain and winds over 100 mph.
