A fiery crash at a Commack gas station killed two men early Wednesday morning.
Police say the incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at the Sunoco station on Jericho Turnpike in Commack.
Police told News 12 that the 2013 Audi was heading west and lost control after the intersection with Veterans Highway. It then slammed into a gas pump and went up in flames. The force of the impact caused the overhead canopy at the gas station to collapse.
Suffolk police say Hector Sanchez, 27, of Brentwood, was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. His passenger has been identified as Shawn Jenkins, 24, of Bay Shore.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. The gas station was open at the time of the crash, but police say nobody else was hurt.
Investigators say they are looking into what may have caused Sanchez to lose control of the car.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
