Some Long Island Rail Road commuters in Hicksville say they found their vehicles booted Monday when they returned to the Broadway Mall.
Aman Singh he had to pay $150 to remove a boot from his car at the mall.
"This is the first time," he says. "I was shocked."
And Singh's not alone. After a day of work, dozens of other commuters came back to the lot Monday to find the same thing. Some say the problem is a parking crunch; the Hicksville parking garage is closing soon for renovations and the train station lots fill up by 7 a.m., leaving many people scrambling.
The towing company involved tells News 12 that there are signs posted all over the mall parking lot warning commuters that it is private property.
Dan Ross, of Hicksville, says he would have hoped that he and the other commuters would have received a warning before they got the boot.
The parking garage is set to close this Wednesday. News 12 is told that construction is expected to take at least three months.
A Town of Oyster Bay spokesperson says residents have been notified that there will be spots available at the Sears parking lot come Wednesday.
News 12's calls to mall management for comment were not immediately returned.
