WEST HEMPSTEAD -

Burglars were caught on a surveillance camera breaking into a West Hempstead barbershop and stealing its ATM.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at JX Cutz on Woodfield Road.

Authorities say the thieves stole the ATM, as well as expensive clippers and a hidden cash drawer.

Barbershop owner Michael Crawford says he believes the burglars were customers who cased the shop from the inside.

“It’s a horrible thing to do. It kind of hurts,” he told News 12.

The ATM had a GPS locater inside. After the theft, there was ping from the machine about a mile away.

Police say they are investigating the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the ATM theft to call police.
