#N12BX: National Cheese Pizza Day

According to the website National Day Calendar, on Sept. 5, one of the most popular varieties of pizza gets its day of honor.
The modern pizza we know today was first made in Italy as Neapolitan flatbread.
Neapolitan flatbread consisted of only mozzarella cheese, mainly the variety made in Naples.
The first documented U.S. pizzeria was Lombardi's in New York City on Spring Street, which opened back in 1905.
It's estimated every second in the U.S. 350 slices of pizza are sold.
