WESTBURY -

Police say two people were caught on camera breaking into a Westbury elementary school on Sunday.

Surveillance images from Park Avenue School in Westbury show two black teenagers breaking into the elementary school through an unlocked roof hatch around 1:30 Sunday night. Detectives say one of the boys can be seen removing a handgun from his waistband. The boys appeared to take off as soon as they triggered the alarm.

Neighbors say they've seen large groups of kids hanging out at the playground on the school grounds after dark.

The school superintendent released a statement that said, in part, security measures have been enhanced since the weekend. He says locks have been installed on the roof hatches. The superintendent says the school is cooperating with Nassau police.
