Biological sisters who spent 57 years apart finally met Monday night at a Huntington Station restaurant.

The reunion between Diane Flanagan, of East Northport, and Jody Scardino, of Melville, started through the genealogy website Ancestry.com.

Flanagan, who was adopted when she was a baby, says after hearing that others have had success finding relatives on the site, she decided to give it a try. She found a match in short time.

"It was our uncle Bill, our mom's brother, and he messaged me back right away, and the rest is history," she says.

Scardino says when she found out 15 years ago that she had another sister, she decided to find her but never had any success. She called Monday's meeting a miracle.

"Someone a long time ago gave me a picture and said this is a picture of my life...and there's been a hole," she says. "She just filled that hole."

The two already say they're finding common ground as they get to know each other -- they even like the same drinks. They also have similar features.

As for what's next, Flanagan says meeting her mother and their younger sister who both live in North Carolina and, of course, catching up on the last 57 years.
