The pool at Roberto Clemente Park in Brentwood has finally reopened after it was shut down six years ago because toxic waste had been dumped at the park.
The pool reopened last week, just in time for residents to take a dip before the end of the summer. An unveiling celebration was being held by Islip town officials Monday evening with food, live music, arts and crafts and a movie.
Officials say the nearly $3 million pool-renovation project was more involved than originally thought. They had promised the pool would be open by the summer of 2018.
The town of Islip is also working on building a $2 million spray park at the property, which is expected to open next summer.
