Suffolk officials announce county marathon details

Some fallen Long Island heroes will be honored in this fall's Suffolk marathon.

The 4th annual county marathon, half marathon, 5K and relay race is taking place Oct. 28 in Patchogue.
The event is sponsored by Catholic Health Services, which supports more than 90,000 veterans who live in Suffolk.
County Executive Steve Bellone announced who the races will be dedicated to.

"And of course we know this past March, seven members of the 106th Rescue Wing were killed in action, losing their lives in a helicopter crash in Iraq. This year's race will be dedicated to the brave service members of the 106,"  he said.
There will also be a county executive’s cup - a special trophy that active duty military personnel will be eligible for.
