Family of fallen airman gets puppy surprise in Commack

The family of Air National Guard Master Sgt. Christopher Raguso, of Commack, received a puppy surprise Friday thanks to the group “Paws of War.”
Raguso, 39, was a decorated lieutenant in the FDNY, a volunteer with the Commack Fire Department and a member of the 106th Air Rescue Wing based out of Westhampton Beach. He was one of four members of the 106th that were killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq last March.
Carmela Raguso says she and Christopher discussed getting a dog as a surprise for their two daughters when he returned from deployment.
“This is a dream come true for them and something Chris and I really wanted,” she told News 12.
The pup's name is Calvin – a black Lab that was rescued by Paws of War from a shelter in Louisiana. Calvin was part of a litter of 11 – all of which were brought to Long Island and are going to the families of veterans.
Both girls have said they promise to feed and walk Calvin. Eva, 5, made it clear that Calvin would be sleeping with her every night.
