Suffolk's biggest town is taking big steps toward going green.

Brookhaven town officials unveiled electric vehicle charging stations in Mount Sinai Tuesday.

The stations cost about $22,000 each, but most of the cost was covered by a state grant.

Future EV charging station installations will be covered by taxpayer money, but Brookhaven town officials say the environmental benefit outweighs the costs.

Officials say there is a minimal cost for using the stations. The profits from use do not go to the town.
