Police: Husband killed wife, himself in Elmont

Posted: Updated:
ELMONT -

Police say an Elmont man fatally shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself after the two got into a fight.

A call reporting the incident on the 100 block of Wellington Road came in just before noon Saturday.

Police arrived at the home to find the couple with apparent gunshot wounds. They were identified as Tertue Gregoire and Patrick Myrthil.

Gregoire reportedly asked for a divorce from Myrthil, and that's when the fight allegedly escalated to violence.

Police say Myrthil used an illegal 9 mm handgun to shoot his wife several times. They say he then laid down with her, and then shot himself.

Authorities remained on scene for hours. The investigation is ongoing.
