Borough president visits couple coping with deplorable conditions
A longtime Sheepshead Bay resident fed up with what she calls deplorable living conditions was paid a visit by Borough President Eric Adams Friday after calling into News 12 Brooklyn’s Ask the Borough President segment.
Lola Weinstein and her Army veteran husband have been dealing with rats, bedbugs, mold and more in the building she's lived in for 75 years.
She says she is the only rent-controlled tenant on the property.
Weinstein says they've been dealing with a bedbug outbreak that caused them to sleep in rocking chairs at one point, along with a wall that was poorly patched after a leak.
She also says the landlord has put the blame on her for these issues.
Weinstein says it took eight months to get any aid for the bedbug issue and had to throw away all their furniture, including heirloom pieces.
Adams says he plans to consult with the Weinstein's lawyers, talk with city agencies and look at revamping the system of filing complaints.
The Weinsteins say Adams is their last hope since they've spent every last dollar dealing with the issues.
Adams says he is working right away to resolve these issues.
News 12 contacted 2610 Glenwood Management LLC, which oversees the building, but hasn't received a response.
