The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first generic version of EpiPen.

Teva Pharmaceuticals won approval to market a generic version of Mylan's EpiPen auto-injector.

The generic approval of the drug comes after Mylan, came under intense criticism for raising the price of its EpiPen six times since buying it in 2007

Widespread shortage across the country and manufacturing issues and local supply disruptions were also to blame.

Experts sales of EpiPens typically spike during the back-to-school season.

According to the New York Times, there is no answer when Teva would have the product ready for sale in the next few weeks when school begins.

A company spokeswoman declined to say when it would be available, or how much it would cost, the Times reported.
