The Bronx County Historical Society is hosting a women's suffrage exhibit as the 100th anniversary of Congress passing the 19th Amendment approaches.

The exhibit is as much about the past as it is about the future. New York played a crucial role in the women's suffrage movement. Women were given the right to vote in New York in 1917, three years before the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

"With the right to vote women could take their rightful place in American society, and thus contribute to the growth of our society, our economy, our politics and our world," says Bronx borough historian Lloyd Ultan.

Inside the exhibit, visitors can explore the legacies of women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and others who paved the way for the opportunities women have today. It also highlights women who continue to pave the way in the modern world.

The exhibit runs through April of 2019.
