Heavy rain causes flooding, outages

NASSAU COUNTY -

Heavy rain and flooding has encroached communities around the island, causing some problems on the roads.

Nassau County police had to shut down two lanes in front of the Westfield Sunrise shopping center on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa. Both the center and right lanes were closed for some time heading westbound due to flooding, causing a backup of traffic.

Ketcham Avenue in Amityville was also significantly affected by the rain. There have been reports of flooded streets and driveways.

PSEG also reports that there are outages around the island including 124 in North Hempstead, 412 in Oyster Bay and another 200 in Massapequa Park.
