Members: East Meadow American Legion in need of repairs

Members of an American Legion post say declining enrollment and badly needed repairs are causing much concern among the veterans who use the building.
The post in East Meadow was built in 1891 and needs roof work plus plumbing and electric repairs. It was originally a farmhouse, and became an American Legion hall in 1935.
Their only income comes from renting the facility for parties, but they say events are dwindling because of its current condition.
Members are trying to raise money for the bigger repairs to the electrical and plumbing systems.
Army veteran Wayne O'Connor, of Levittown, hopes the community comes to their aid the way he says the post did during Superstorm Sandy, when the area suffered power outages.
“This place was open 24/7 for ice, juice, whatever you needed,” said O’Connor.
The post has started a GoFundMe page to help raise money and is holding a golf outing this Thursday at Eisenhower Park.
