Residents remember Long Islander killed in Iraqi helicopter crash

EAST PATCHOGUE -

People joined together in Patchogue to honor a fallen military hero.

A fundraiser for Technical Sgt. Dashan Briggs was held at The Meetball Place Sunday.

Sgt. Briggs was one of four Long Islanders killed in an Iraqi helicopter crash in March.

His family says the event helps them mend their hearts a little bit.

"It shows us that people still remember Dashan and they always will," said Tara Karen, Briggs' sister-in-law. "It honestly warms my heart, it makes me happy to know that people are here and they miss him too. That makes us feel so much better."

All the proceeds from Sunday night's event will go to Briggs' wife and two small children.
