A woman who dedicated her life to serving the community was recognized with a special honor Wednesday.
A portion of Irving Place was renamed Shirlee Gerstein Way.
Gerstein's family say the community was central to her life.
She passed away just before her 90th birthday last year.
The newly named area is located in front of the Youth and Family Counseling Agency of Oyster Bay-East Norwich, where Gerstein worked for 46 years.
