MERRICK -

The owner of a Merrick diner says vandals have targeted his location six times in the past three years.

Georgio V, the owner and cook at the Phoenix Diner, told News 12 that six windows and his door were broken when he arrived at the diner Wednesday morning.

Video surveillance from outside the diner shows a man throwing rocks and bricks through the windows.

Ben Nizitto, who has only worked at the diner for eight months, says he has seen the windows shattered three times.

“This is shocking. What kind of human being would do something like this?” he said.

The diner has been a community favorite since the 1940's

Police say they are reviewing the security footage. They are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
