A woman pulled into the Cumberland Farms gas station on Watertown Road in Thomaston Wednesday to fill up her Lexus, and while she was at the pump, someone drove it away -- with $50,000 worth of jewelry inside.
Police say surveillance video shows a group of crooks in another car spying the scene for potential victims.
They drive near the pump and wait for an opportunity to jump into a vehicle and drive away, with the gas hose still hanging from tank.
Police say they found the Lexus and another stolen car in Waterbury. They say they believe the suspects are juveniles.
To avoid becoming a victim, Thomaston Police Sgt. Bart Deeley says drivers should shut off their vehicles and remove the keys before getting out.
Wilton police say they have seen a string of car thefts recently as well.
