Police: Floral Park man led officers on chase, had cocaine in car

A Floral Park man is facing a slew of charges after allegedly leading police on a foot chase Friday after a traffic stop.
Police say they pulled over Anthony Grassi, 21, on Hempstead Turnpike near Broadway for swerving. They say once they stopped his car, he got out and ran on foot. Police chased him and placed him under arrest.
During the foot chase, one officer hurt his ankle and went to the hospital.
After catching Grassi, police say they found 84 bags containing cocaine in his car, along with a scale and pepper spray.
He was arraigned on multiple charges Saturday in Hempstead, including criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of assault, driving while ability impaired and two vehicle and traffic law violations.
Grassi’s neighbors told News 12 that he had been in trouble before. Prosecutors say he has a prior conviction.
A judge ordered Grassi be held on $50,000 bail.
