Best of Brooklyn: Brownsville 8-year-old’s workout could put you to shame

Isaac Marrero is the Calisthenics Kid — an 8-year-old from Brownsville who sticks to an intense workout routine and structured diet for his large social media following.
An example of his workouts: 500 squats for two days, then 1,000 on the next two.
"Four days working and then three days off," he explains. "And then five days working and two days off."
He also does hundreds of pushups, situps, pullups and dips.
"In this neighborhood we live in, in the hood, in the urban community and in this world as a whole, being physically fit will give him an advantage in any field he goes," says his father, Ralph Marrero.
But he's not just working for himself, the Calisthenics Kid says he wants to encourage other young people to stay fit and make use of local playgrounds.
"In my generation, there's too many kids eating fast food and starting to have obesity and all the diseases that come with it," he says.
