Motorists will have to wait to get gas or go to the bathroom on two toll roads in central New Jersey after Labor Day, when rest areas on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway close for renovations
The Thomas Edison service area along the Turnpike in Woodbridge, and the Monmouth service area on the Parkway in Wall, will both close after Sept. 3. Both plazas are getting major improvements, new facilities, and restaurants.
The rest areas will be closed entirely until Memorial Day 2019.
Former Gov. Chris Christie announced last year that all 16 service areas in New Jersey would be renovated. HMSHost and Sunoco will fund the $250 million project in exchange for operating the food and fuel concessions for the next 25 years.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
