Family awaits fate of deliveryman facing deportation

NEW YORK -

Dozens of people rallied in lower Manhattan Monday in support of a pizza deliveryman from Hempstead who is facing deportation.

Loved ones say it's been nearly two months since Pablo Villavicencio slept in his own bed or ate dinner with his family. As News 12 has reported, Villavicencio, who is an immigrant from Ecuador, was detained by ICE agents after making a catering delivery to a military base in Brooklyn.

Now his wife, Sandra Chica, his 4-year-old daughter Luciana and his 2-year-old daughter Antonia can only wait to see what will happen at Villavicencio's federal court hearing tomorrow.

At Monday's event at City Hall, Chica got emotional as she took to the podium and explained that Villavicencio has already missed Father's Day and one of his daughter's birthdays. She says he hopes he doesn't have to miss another that’s coming up in August.

"No father should miss these important days and milestones with their family," she says.

Other families who have faced deportation and immigration issues stood with Chica today, along with activists. They promised to be at federal court on Tuesday to show Pablo Villavicencio the same support that they are showing his wife and children.

The hearing is set for 11 a.m.

News 12 contacted ICE for a statement on the case, but has not heard back.
