Dozens of people swam across the Great South Bay Friday morning for the annual Maggie Fischer Memorial Great South Bay Cross-Bay Swim.
The 5.6-mile open-water race started on Fire Island near the lighthouse and ended at Gilbert Park in Brightwaters.
The race began in 1927, but was renamed in 1999 for a Brightwaters teen who died days before the race.
