Trump impersonator at July Fourth parade irks some residents

Posted: Updated:
NESCONSET -

A Donald Trump impersonator that appeared in a Port Jefferson parade on July Fourth is not sitting well with some residents who spoke to News 12.

The impersonator was riding on an antique firetruck from the Nesconset Fire Department, wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and yelling to the crowd through a megaphone.

Some people News 12 spoke with say it was wrong to politicize the Fourth of July parade.

“Fourth of July is a celebration of America. Not today's politics,” said Jane Cahill, of Holbrook.

Some residents told News 12 that they didn't see a problem with the impersonation and thought it was funny.

Members of the Nesconset Fire Department and Port Jefferson Fire Department had no comment for News 12.

According to a statement from the Port Jefferson Fire Department, "The impersonator was monitored by members of the Port Jefferson Fire Department and was not allowed to make any political statements or reference to any political issues. It is our view that his attendance was seen as satire."

It was not immediately clear if the Trump impersonator was paid to be there.
