OYSTER BAY -

The Town of Oyster Bay has announced it is restricting the speed limit in the harbor to 5 mph for the holiday.

The rule goes into effect at 6 p.m. tonight to midnight tomorrow.

The town says that is when the area gets crowded with boaters to observe fireworks.

The goal is to prevent tragedies like the one that killed three children in 2012.

A boat carrying 27 people capsized after a fireworks display.
