Six people were hurt when a car collided with a stretch limousine in Melville, and search efforts are now underway for the driver who left the scene.
The head-on crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday on Wilmington Drive. Police say a 2012 Mercedes-Benz crossed a double-yellow line and smashed head-on into the limo.
The driver of the Mercedes allegedly took off running, and police say he was seen being picked up by someone in a dark-colored sedan immediately after the crash.
All six occupants of the limo, including the driver and five passengers, were hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
News 12 is told that the limo was taking the passengers home from a wedding, and was only a mile from its destination when the crash happened.
The roadway was closed following the crash, but has since been reopened. The Mercedes was towed from the scene.
Anyone with information on the driver is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
Neighbors who live along the stretch of road where the crash occurred say the 30 mph speed limit is often disregarded, especially late at night.
