A man had to be pulled from the waters off Caumsett State Park Friday afternoon.
The Town of Oyster Bay Constable Marine Bureau says it received a call about a swimmer in distress off West Neck Beach around 2:40 p.m. It says the swimmer, a man in his late 50s, suffered a heart attack while taking a dip in the Long Island Sound.
Chris Dybus, a lifeguard at the beach, says he saw Nassau police and Oyster Bay constables team up in a valiant rescue effort, performing CPR on the man.
Officials say three Oyster Bay constables tried to resuscitate the man as they brought him to shore. He was transported by police helicopter to Nassau University Medical Center. His condition was not immediately known.
