A Suffolk County man slammed his car into a tree while trying to flee from United States Marshals in Lynbrook, officials say.
U.S. Marshals say their agents and the New Jersey Fugitive Task Force were trying to arrest 27-year-old Cory Cornish, of Coram, on a Suffolk warrant for assault and a New York state parole warrant.
Officials say Cornish tried to make a getaway in his Jaguar but crashed the vehicle into a tree in front of a Lynbrook home on Brower Place. Neighbors say the suspect threw drugs at the officers before he was taken into custody.
Marshals confirm that both members of the task force and Cornish were exposed to illegal drugs after the crash. They were taken to a hospital for evaluation and released.
