A plan to raise consumer water rates in Glen Cove was voted down for the first time in more than a decade.
Mayor Tim Tenke initially said the city must increase rates by 25 percent in order to make critical infrastructure improvements.
The rate hike would have resulted in about a $5 increase on the average consumer's bill.
City officials say the proposed water rate hike could be revisited at a later time.
