Police: Man led officers on chase in stolen dump truck

PORT JEFFERSON -

Police say a Lake Grove man stole a town dump truck and led police on a chase through parts of Suffolk County.

Police say Anthony Bruno, 31, decided to take a Port Jefferson dump truck out of the village's parking lot.

Port Jefferson Village Mayor Margot Garant says no one expected a village dump truck to be stolen while the village employees were on break. However, town officials say the keys were left inside and the truck was unlocked.

Garant said "The Parks Department typically takes a break in the early afternoon so they were on their break as usual.  All of the vehicles were parked together at the yard.  They're there in the break room as the Supervisor's truck is being driven off."

Police say Bruno took the truck and made his way from Port Jefferson to West Babylon before he was taken into custody.
