Family mourns somber anniversary of son’s death by drunken driver

A Milford family is mourning the anniversary of the death of their son, who was killed by a drunken driver in 2013.
Claudia Vece broke down while describing the tragic night that her 24-year-old son Ron Vece was killed.
Police say the accident took place in West Haven, when Vece was struck on his motorcycle by a car driven by his ex-girlfriend, who was later convicted of DUI.
Vece’s parents met with Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Mayor Joe Ganim Sunday, who are both working to build awareness about the dangers of drunken driving.
"Five years later, the heartbreak for this family is still real and so deeply painful,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal. “And it reminds all of us how the scourge of drunk driving has to be stopped."
The couple says they're not happy with the way the case was handled and have tried for years to get their son's case reopened -- but without success.
