Asbury Lanes officially reopens with Springsteen performance

Music venue Asbury Lanes celebrated its official reopening with a special performance by New Jersey music legend Bruce Springsteen.
“The Boss” played along with local band Tangiers Blues Band for about five songs. Rock band Portugal. The Man also performed.
About 300 Asbury Park residents were given free tickets to the show through a lottery.
The event was organized by iStar, which developed Asbury Lanes and the Asbury Hotel. The company has played a major role in the revitalization of the Asbury Park waterfront. Organizers say that the performances were a way to give back to the community.
“[Springsteen] started off here, so it’s good for him to come back and support the community,” says Asbury Park resident Beau Dummer. “I’m happy he’s here.”
"I think part of our goal here was to take what Asbury Park has always had and try to add a little something different and make it even better. Is there some way to amplify the best of what Asbury Park already is? And I think that’s what Asbury Lanes is for us,” says iStar senior vice president Brian Sheripka.
Monday’s performance kicks off a year-round line up of local and international acts at Asbury Lanes.
The event also doubled as a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County.
