Police investigating attempted child abduction in Scotch Plains

Scotch Plains police are investigating an attempted child abduction incident on Park Avenue Friday morning.
Police are looking for a man who drove up to a boy walking near Park Middle School and told him to "hop in the car."
The child refused and ran back home to tell his parents who then called the police.
The Scotch Plains-Fanwood school district sent a letter to parents, alerting them about the incident.
While some residents say they're shocked, others tell News 12 they're not.
The school district and police are asking all parents to talk to their children about "stranger danger" in case they find themselves in a similar situation.
Some tips to keep in mind include don't talk to strangers, walk in groups and tell someone you trust if you're approached.
Scotch Plains police department posted on Twitter a brief description of the suspect; a white male last seen driving a black vehicle.
Anyone with information should call police.
