The Department of Environmental Protection has given an “all clear” to most beaches in New Jersey after a bacteria advisory was issued.

High levels of bacteria were detected at dozens of beaches around the state after the heavy rainfall last Sunday.

Officials say the rain runoff picks up different materials and bacteria while on its way to the rivers and into the ocean.

They say if the tests show a level higher than the standard, the beaches are placed under advisory. If a second test is done and they're still above that level, the beaches will be closed to swimming.  

DEP officials say two river beaches in Brick Township remain under advisory, while all the other tests came back well under the advisory levels.

A second round of test results is expected to be released this afternoon.
