Meadowlands Racetrack has begun making preparations for sports betting.

Jeff Gural, Chairman of the Meadowlands, says they are working with architects to convert part of their facility into a temporary sports betting lounge.

Gural says they are looking to open as early as mid-July.

The Meadowlands will be teaming up with online gambling provider Betfair when it comes time to take wagers.

In Atlantic City, most casinos are working on their own timetables for when sports betting will be offered there.

Borgata says it's moving ahead as fast as possible, but there's no date set as to when the first bet can be placed.

Sports gambling is now legal in New Jersey -- and bettors will be able to place their first wagers on Thursday.

It comes after Gov. Phil Murphy signed the sports wagering bill Monday, three weeks after the state emerged victorious in the U.S. Supreme Court, overturning a national ban.

Gov. Murphy, himself, will place a wager Thursday at Monmouth Park where workers have been getting ready for sports betting for over a year.

Legal online sports wagering in New Jersey will begin in a month.
