Hundreds of mourners packed the funeral Tuesday for a state trooper who died from 9/11-related cancer.

Trooper 1st Class Walter Greene, a Stamford native who lived in Norwalk, was a member of the Connecticut State Police for 28 years. He at one point served at the Troop G barracks in Bridgeport and was also a Marine Corps veteran.

The ceremony began with a state police motorcade. Then relatives, friends, colleagues and other mourners paid their respects.

Toxic chemicals he was exposed to while responding to Ground Zero after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks are believed to have caused his cancer.

Greene leaves behind a wife and three sons. Friends say Greene dealt with the death of his daughter last year. He will be buried at St John's Cemetery in Norwalk.
