New Jersey Transit has made some major changes to their schedule just before summer.
The changes are being made to speed up the process of putting in positive train control. PTC automatically slows down trains if they are going too fast, but it also is slowing down many trying to get to the shore.
As News 12 has previously reported, NJ Transit is canceling some trains completely while others are just being changed. This means that fewer trains are going to and from popular Jersey Shore towns.
Schedule changes went into effect Monday so this was the first weekend commuters had to deal with their tighter commute.
While there are other options, the changes have made travel less convenient for many. Some, though, say it’s an inconvenience that needs to be dealt with for safety purposes.
"Hopefully in the end we will have safer rides," said Michael Vincent, of Belmar.
The schedule changes remain in effect until early next year.
