Lindenhurst flood work delayed over contractor's legal troubles

Posted: Updated:
LINDENHURST -

Village officials in Lindenhurst say a legal problem with the contractor scheduled to fix local flooding problems will cause some delays.

As News 12 has reported, the village plans to have check valves and other measures installed in an effort to stop street flooding during storm surges.

But the contractor -- D&B Engineers and Architects of Woodbury -- is facing bribery and corruption charges in New York City, so Lindenhurst backed out of the deal.

D&B has denied any wrongdoing, but it agreed to drop its bid after the village requested it do so.

That move means the project will be delayed until at least the fall -- and it will cost the village more of its Superstorm Sandy relief funds.

The estimated completion date has been pushed back until 2020 at the earliest.

Resident Artie Fahie says he's seen flooding in his Lindenhurst neighborhood almost every heavy rainstorm in the 50 years he's spent there.

"It is a never-ending thing," he says.
