A small step toward opening all the lanes of the new and improved Pulaski Skyway was accomplished today after southbound traffic from 1 and 9 in Jersey City were finally able to go over in the southbound lanes.
The accomplishment comes after southbound traffic had been using the northbound lanes to get across the Skyway during the length of the project.
The opening shows a lot of progress has been made.
The date for completion has been pushed back three times, with the most recent date spring of this year.
But spring is over.
Works that needs to be done includes laying the final coat of pavement on bridge decks and painting lines on the road.
Skyway funding for the project was controversial, with the Port Authority regarding it as an access road to the Lincoln Tunnel to sell $2.3 billion in bonds.
The SEC said the authority misled the investors, and the authority agreed to pay a $400,000 fine.
