Some residents spent their Memorial Day protesting the new Hobby Lobby store in Massapequa Park.
Demonstrators were dressed in costumes from the Hulu show "The Handmaid's Tale." They claim Hobby Lobby is restricting womens' rights by not providing coverage for birth control.
“That's why we are dressed today in Handmaids outfits,” says Long Island Activist Candice Hildebrant. “We feel if more corporations start doing what Hobby Lobby is doing, we're going to end up in a dystopian future just like handmaids.”
Managers at the new Hobby Lobby store had no comment on the peaceful protest.
