Coast Guard officials say they have suspended the search for two missing kayakers in the Long Island Sound.

They say 21-year-old Spencer Mugford and 20-year-old Sophia McKenna were last seen on a tandem kayak Sunday morning off Groton, Connecticut.

Groton police were called when the pair failed to arrive for an event Sunday.

Officials say their empty kayak was found near Greenport.

They say multiple boats, helicopters and police departments searched for hours, but the search was suspended around 10:30 p.m. Monday night.
