Dead humpback whale washes ashore on Fire Island

FIRE ISLAND -

A dead humpback whale washed ashore Sunday in the Point O' Woods community of Fire Island.

The Atlantic Marine Conservation Society says the whale measured 35 to 40 feet long and was in an advanced state of decomposition.

A necropsy will be performed as early as Monday to determine how the whale died.
