Long Beach man charged with hate crime in racist rant on LIRR

LONG BEACH -

Hate crime charges have been filed against a Long Beach man after his rant on the Long Island Rail Road went viral.

Prosecutors say the man seen in the video is 58-year-old Edward Ruggiero.

According to prosecutors, he physically threatened a 25-year-old black woman and yelled racist remarks at her on a train that was headed to Long Beach from Penn Station last month.

If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
