Jenkinson’s Aquarium has a new visitor – a sloth direct from a zoo in Minnesota.

The sloth will soon be a part of the rainforest area on the top floor of the aquarium. He will be featured along with the monkeys and parrots already on display.

Sloths are known for being slow, lethargic animals.

“They pretty much sleep 18 hours a day, so they’re very, very lazy,” says aquarium supervisor Carlo DiMicco. “Hopefully when he is on exhibit, he’ll be moving around a little bit. So, we’ll try to offer him some food to get him moving so he’s not just a lump of fur laying down on a tree.”

The sloth will also be part of the aquarium's outreach program, joining the penguins on the road for those who can't make it to Point Pleasant Beach.

He may also be taken out to Jenkinson’s Boardwalk on occasion.
