MTA announces Fast Forward plan to upgrade subway system

The MTA on Wednesday announced a massive plan to upgrade the subway system.
Officials say the multibillion "Fast Forward" plan will improve service and stations within the next five years.
The proposed plan would install new signals on the most heavily used segments of the A, C, E, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6, F, M, R and G lines.
There would be repairs at over 150 stations, and 650 new subway cars would be added to the fleet.
The MTA also plans to make 50 subway stations accessible through new elevators.
Officials say that the changes will cause short-term pain with limited service and temporary station closures. They say that once work is complete, riders can expect consistent service and fewer delays.
The proposed project would receive funding from the city, state and federal government.
